Just Left Shenandoah? Here's Where to Take the Kids Before You Drive Home

Aug 30, 2026Frozen Yogi

You did it. You hiked, you drove Skyline Drive, you spent the afternoon picking apples or driving around soaking up the fall leaves, maybe stopped for pie in Sperryville or wandered around Little Washington for a bit. The views were incredible. The kids were troopers. And now everyone in the car is tired, a little cranky, and staring down an hour-plus drive back to DC.

Here's a suggestion before you get back on 29 or 66. Stop in Old Town Warrenton first.

Why Warrenton Makes Sense on the Way Home

Warrenton sits right on the route back from Thornton Gap, Sperryville, Little Washington, and the orchards out toward the mountains, which makes it a natural place to pause before the last stretch of the drive. And honestly, this is the part of the day that usually gets overlooked. Everyone plans the hike or the wine tasting or the orchard visit or the leaf-peeping drive, but nobody plans for the moment when the kids need to run around for twenty minutes and the adults need a real coffee before merging back onto 66.

That's exactly the gap we fill.

Something for Literally Everyone in the Car

We built Frozen Yogi to be more than a froyo shop, and this is exactly the kind of stop where that matters. Here's what that looks like in practice:

For the kids: a play area where they can finally burn off the energy they've been saving up in the backseat, plus self-serve frozen yogurt where they pick their own flavors and toppings, which feels like a treat and a reward for a good day outdoors.

For the parents: a real espresso bar with European-style coffee, including our flat white, if you need something stronger than gas station coffee for the last leg of the drive. Cocktails, mocktails, and beer are also on the menu if a hike ended and someone deserves a drink before facing DC traffic.

For grandparents, non-froyo people, or anyone who just wants to sit: paninis, specialty teas, and a genuinely nice space to relax in for a bit, not just a counter to order at and leave.

For the person who wants a souvenir: Toko Bali, our Balinese gift shop, right in the same space, in case the day needs one more stop before it's over.

Easy In, Easy Out

We know families coming off a long day outdoors don't want another hassle. There's a free parking lot behind the building. No parking meters, no circling the block, no herding tired kids across the street.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Frozen Yogi a good stop after hiking Old Rag?
Yes. Warrenton sits along the route back to DC from both, making it a convenient place to stop for food, coffee, and a break before the rest of the drive.

Is this a good stop after apple picking or a fall foliage drive?
Yes. Warrenton is on the way back toward DC from most of the orchards and scenic drives around Shenandoah, so it works well as a stop to warm up, grab coffee, and let the kids play after a day outdoors.

Is there a play area for kids?
Yes, we have a dedicated kids' play area in addition to self-serve frozen yogurt and a kids-friendly menu.

Do you have anything for adults, not just kids?
Yes. We have a full espresso bar, specialty teas, paninis, and cocktails, mocktails, and beer for guests 21 and up.

Where do I park?
There's a free parking lot behind the building — come in through the back entrance for easy access.

How far is Warrenton from Shenandoah National Park or Little Washington?
Warrenton is about 40 minutes from the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park, and a similar drive from Little Washington and Sperryville, making it a natural stop on the way back toward DC.

Come see us across from the courthouse. We'll have the froyo, the coffee, and a place for the kids to run around, all ready for you.
